Working with Free Library of Philadelphia and Metcalfe Architecture & Design this comprehensive renovation transformed  this vital community hub in need of modernization in the Frankford neighborhood. This “City on a Hill” goes far beyond lending books and providing internet access, the branch offers a wide range of community services, including after-school programs, adult literacy and job placement support, and spaces for community gatherings.

The renovation included significant structural upgrades to reinforce the aging building, along with the installation of new HVAC, electrical, and plumbing systems to improve energy efficiency and comfort. The design introduced dedicated areas for children and young adults, new study and meeting rooms, and reconfigured circulation pathways to enhance accessibility and flow. Staff spaces were expanded and modernized, while the building received updated finishes, energy-efficient lighting, and improved fenestration to maximize natural light. Exterior work included masonry restoration and roof repairs to preserve the historic character while ensuring long-term durability.
