Joanne Settelen

Managing Partner

Joanne’s 20+ years in the financial industry reflect her expertise in leading the operations and financial management as CFO for MJ Settelen. Co-founding the company with her husband, Mark, Joanne is dedicated to building a company that embodies their moral beliefs and which exemplifies the close relationships they’ve built over the years with their clients and employees. Joanne holds a bachelor’s degree from Rutgers University and was accredited as an Asset Management Specialist through The American College. Prior to MJ Settelen, she filled financial roles for Smith Barney, Legg Mason Global Asset Management, and Tucker Anthony Investments. In her free time, Joanne enjoys spending time with her husband and their three children, gardening, and giving back to the community.

Mark Settelen

Partner

With over 25 years of experience, Mark began MJ Settelen with the goal of offering a different kind of construction experience to clients. He believes in senior-level involvement from preconstruction through completion, ensuring clients can feel confident working with MJ Settelen. He is passionate about what he does and it is evident in his client relationships, the team he has put together, and the work MJ Settelen has accomplished since its founding in 2005. He is proud that the company has been able to hold themselves accountable to their founding values. An avid fan of college football, Mark enjoys traveling with his family to watch games, spending time with his wife, Joanne, and their three children, playing golf, and staying involved in his church community.

Martin Fern

Vice President of Operations

As Vice President of Operations, Martin ensures all superintendents are supported to complete projects in a safe, efficient, and high-quality manner. He also oversees the Project Managers and their support staff in all phases of construction. He brings a broad range of operational experience to MJ Settelen, including working in a large regional flooring retailer and a billion dollar global medical device company. He has over ten years of experience in operations and project management and holds a MBA from Rowan University. Outside of work, Martin enjoys mountain biking and traveling to different cities with his wife to explore new restaurants, parks, and the arts.

Jamie McDonald

Business Development Manager

Jamie brings 10 years of Project Management and Owner’s Representation experience to a new role as the Business Development Manager. Her engineering background enables her to engage with potential clients and team members in a pre-construction environment and smooth the transition from budgeting to bidding to building. She applies a flexible, detail-orientated and responsive approach to business development and building long term relationships. Jamie is involved in her Philadelphia community as a Drexel Adjunct Professor and volunteer board member for the East Passyunk Civic Association Zoning and Planning committee. In her free time, she enjoys traveling, trying new Philadelphia restaurants, playing basketball and spoiling her adopted Rottweiler, Sage.

Josh Kuzma

Project Executive

Josh joined the MJ Settelen team with 10 years experience in the construction industry. Prior to joining the team, Josh played an integral role in two full-floor renovations of the 1920 Dining Commons Building at University of Pennsylvania, a $5.2 million project that included the installation of a Grab and Go fresh food market and a custom-designed Starbucks. Josh also served as Project Manager for The Lift Parking Garage on Juniper Street — the first self-parking garage in Philadelphia, and only the second one in the United States. His meticulous attention to detail makes Josh an invaluable part of the MJ Settelen team. He enjoys attending Phillies games and spending time with his wife and their newborn son.

John Verdi

Project Manager

John brings over 45 years of construction experience to MJ Settelen. As Project Manager, he has led construction projects for retail businesses, schools, corporate and medical offices, residential buildings, and local restaurants. John works closely with clients and Project Superintendents to ensure all expectations are met. He has a proven track record of completing projects on time and under budget. Off the job, John enjoys playing golf and spending time with his granddaughter.

Leon Wright

Project Manager

Leon Wright is a Project Manager with more than 10 years of experience in a large range of projects including capital improvements, interior renovations, and complex MEP infrastructure projects. His knowledge also spans multiple markets; from a new construction Oncology Center valued at $8 Million to interior high-tech classroom renovations for The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. With an honest, systematic, and detailed approach to his projects, Leon is able to communicate and make sure the project team is well-informed throughout the construction process. Team success is his focus. As both a Project Manager and Estimator, his job sites benefit from his Lean Construction approach in planning and execution. Outside of work, Leon spends his time with wife, Erica, and their two sons traveling overseas, exploring national parks, and rooting for their favorite Philadelphia sports teams.

Brendan Whalen

Assistant Project Manager

At MJ Settelen, we know that our strength lies in our team which includes our Assistant Project Managers support and hard work. Brendan brings 9 years of construction experience to the team with an education background from Pennsylvania College of Technology in Building Sciences. In the APM role he applies attention to detail, teamwork and determination to provide quality service and products to our clients on the path to successful projects. When not in the office or on site, he spends his free time watching sports, completing carpentry projects and spending quality time with his family.

Scott Fenton

Assistant Project Manager

Scott joins MJ Settelen Construction as an Assistant Project Manager with over 8 years of construction experience in both commercial and residential projects. He studied at Pennsylvania College of Technology for his undergraduate degree in building sciences, and more recently graduated from Drexel University with a master’s in construction management. Scott is proactive and accessible when working with subcontractors and clients while keeping an open stream of communication between all team members ensuring project success. He works directly with the Project Management team and Project Coordinators. In his free team he enjoys traveling, playing basketball and spending time with friends and family.

Michael Campbell

Superintendent

Mike has over 25 years of construction and carpentry experience. His eagerness to step into leadership roles when needed makes him a strong addition to the MJ Settelen team. As Superintendent, Mike ensures projects are completed on time and with high standards of quality. His work portfolio includes renovations at BLT Architects, First Round Capital, and Domus, a Philadelphia based marketing agency. Off the job, Mike enjoys playing golf, fishing, and spending time at Wildwood Crest beach.

John Dwyer

Superintendent

Johnny brings over 30 years of construction experience to the MJ Settelen team. Throughout his career, John has leant his expertise to numerous office renovations, including serving as the Superintendent for the renovations of the Sparks Corporate office. As Superintendent for MJ Settelen, John oversees all on-site subcontractors and works closely with the Project Manager to ensure construction is completed to the highest standard. Outside of his work, Johnny enjoys fishing, hiking, and spending time with his two sons.

Phil Dykes

Superintendent

With over 25 years of experience, Phil has received praise time and again for his ability to work closely with clients and to bring together complex and detailed projects. He has worked as the Superintendent for the fit out of the new AJO office and works diligently throughout the year as the “Go to” Superintendent for multi-unit residential projects including The Ritz Carlton. Phil spends his free time chauffeuring his kids to sporting events, spending time with his family, and visiting the beach.

Cole Florczynski

Superintendent

Originally a cabinetmaker by trade, Cole came to MJ Settelen with a wide breadth of experience. His diverse background and his commitment to quality translate into strong organizational skills and superb client relationships. As Superintendent at MJ Settelen, Cole led the construction team for the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society, lobby renovations at the 100 N. 20th Street building, and restroom renovations at One Liberty Place. In his free time, Cole enjoys spending time with his family and two dogs, playing golf, hiking, and mountain biking.

Rich McCloskey

Superintendent

Rich has over thirty years of construction experience under his belt. His commitment to quality and ability to manage construction teams help Rich to build strong relationships with clients. As Superintendent for MJ Settelen, Rich has led construction teams for the renovations of McCormick Taylor, the visitor tour area for the United States Mint, and on the construction for Hay Group’s new global headquarters. Rich enjoys playing golf and spending time with his grandmother.

Rick Ragusa

Superintendent

Ricky has been with MJ Settelen since its founding. He has been in construction for over 28 years, originally starting in the field as a carpenter before quickly moving up to superintendent. As Superintendent with MJ Settelen, Rick has managed the construction of numerous projects in the Philadelphia area, including overseeing construction at Chef Eric Ripert’s 10 Arts Bistro and Lounge at the Ritz Carlton, Cushman & Wakefield’s Mid-Atlantic regional office, and the tenant fit out at Philadelphia Financial at One Liberty Place. Outside of work, Rick coaches youth and middle school wrestling and enjoys spending time with his family.

Tom Clark

Superintendent

Building on over 18 years of professional experience with Lean Six Sigma construction practices, Tom offers a wealth of knowledge as a Superintendent at MJ Settelen Construction. His responsibilities include the scheduling, coordination and on-site supervision of subcontractors while keeping Project Management, Architects, Engineers, and Clients continuously up to date. Tom brings positivity to difficult situations and enjoys the problem-solving aspect needed in the ever-changing construction industry. From the concrete footing to the last piece of trim installed, Tom prides himself on the details. When he is not organizing and rallying the on-site team at work, you can find him demonstrating that same skill set coaching soccer teams and directing the Hunter Soccer Camp in Glenside, Pennsylvania. With his wife and three children, Tom enjoys adventurous travels, and planning a visit to see friends and family in the United Kingdom.

Founded in 2005, MJ Settelen has worked hard to create a company that provides a unique and personal experience for clients, employees, and vendors. We pride ourselves in building close and lasting relationships with our clients, incorporating senior level involvement from preconstruction to completion.
